So today in class our exhaust hoods weren't working in the kitchen. At first it only resulted in very strong odors from all the cooking, but by the time we fired up the grill, it was a whole other story! My dish to create with my friend Jen was an Argentine Parillada Mixta with Chimichurri (which is basically a mixed grill served with fried potato slices and garlic). Jen handled the prepping of all the potatoes and garlic for frying while I threw together the chimichurri sauce and prepped the meats to later grill. I was grilling a flank steak along with a couple chorizo sausages, and alongside another couple of students began grilling some pork tenderloins. Moments later the kitchen filled with smoke and the three of us at the grill turned to discover that the rest of our class had disappeared, filtering out of the classroom and were all watching us grill from behind the glass in the hallway (while our chef set out to get help to repair our hood while avoiding setting off the smoke alarms). So the three of us stayed in our sinking ship, eyes watering, refusing to leave our grilled meats behind. The results were perfectly grilled (and quite possibly smoked) meats, with lovely grill marks :) I'm not sorry I sacrificed my oxygen supply to grill a perfect steak. It was beautiful! Check it out!! Unfortunately though, when I got to dine in the dining room today, they had a lame ass buffet set up (I despise buffets in case you were wondering), and by the time I got up there all of the food I had prepared had already been devoured (can you blame them) so I didn't even get to try it. Oh well, I'm sure it was delicious!
